Terms and Conditions
Last updated October 4, 2026
These terms govern your use of Cheapskate, a personal finance assistant you can use on the web and by text message. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
What Cheapskate does
Cheapskate connects to financial accounts you choose, shows you your balances, spending, cards, rewards, and subscriptions, and answers questions about them. Access is read-only: Cheapskate cannot move money, make payments, trade securities, or change anything at your bank. Editing a purchase description or date inside Cheapskate changes only your own diary; it never alters your actual bank record.
SMS messaging program
The Cheapskate messaging program sends account notifications and conversational replies about your own financial data. It is optional and off until you turn it on.
Message frequency varies based on your settings and your activity: one welcome message, replies whenever you text us, bookkeeping questions about new purchases after phone verification unless you pause them, an optional daily recap, and any reminders you ask us to set. We cap outbound messages at 30 per day per user.
Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to cancel at any time, START to resume, and HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy.
Opting in and out
To enable messaging you must be signed in, accept the SMS disclosure, and text a one-time code from the number you are linking. Replying STOP ends all messages from us but leaves your account and saved data intact. You can also turn recaps and purchase questions off individually without opting out of SMS entirely. Supported carriers may change.
Your account
Keep your sign-in and passphrase secure and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity under your account. Link only accounts and phone numbers you own or are authorized to use. Do not attempt to access another user’s data, disrupt the service, or use it unlawfully. Accounts are for individuals aged 18 or over.
Not financial advice
Cheapskate gives you information and estimates about your own money. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a bank, broker, or money transmitter. Card recommendations, reward valuations, projections, and “left on the table” figures are estimates that depend on data from your institutions and on issuer rules that change. Verify anything important with your institution before acting on it. Holdings are periodic snapshots, not live market prices.
Accuracy and availability
Data arrives from third parties such as Plaid and your institutions and may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. Cheapskate is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may change or discontinue features. Cheapskate is currently offered as a private beta.
Paid plans
Some features require a paid plan. Pricing and billing terms are shown before you subscribe. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for financial decisions you make using the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending your use
You may stop using Cheapskate and request deletion of your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached or if required for security or legal reasons.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms and will post the revised version here with a new date. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions: garv5114@gmail.com.
